Client-Side Schedule Assurance for a Utility-Scale BESS

The Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Rohrsdorf is a large-scale energy storage project being developed by LichtBlick / Eneco in Rohrsdorf near Chemnitz, Saxony. With a capacity of 101.75 MW / 407 MWh, the facility comprises 84 Fluence GSP5000 battery units and will play a key role in supporting grid stability and renewable integration in Germany.

The project started in June 2025 and is targeting commercial operation in March 2027. It is delivered under a full EPC contract, with the EPC contractor responsible for managing all technical interfaces and balance-of-plant risks.

Procon's Role

Client-Side Planning & Control

Within this EPC setup, Procon Planning supports the client in a monitoring and assurance role, safeguarding schedule credibility and interface alignment. This approach ensures the client retains full control over external dependencies and is not exposed to unintended schedule risk.

  • Reviewing and assessing the robustness, realism and contractual credibility of the EPC contractor's programme
  • Integrating the EPC schedule into the overall project baseline
  • Monitoring progress and identifying early warning signals on critical activities
  • Ensuring that developer-managed interfaces—such as permitting and grid connection—do not become schedule constraints or sources of delay attribution
